BBGs - Part 2

Mike stood in the the gym showers immediately debating the wisdom of his actions. If this didn't work out it was be very awkward in the gym and he hardly knew this girl....plus, well there was no getting round the fact she was a big girl. He thought of the rest of his rugby team and sports students with their perfectly sculpted model-in-training girlfriends. He could imagine the reaction if he was going out with a girl like Katie.

He then berated himself, if he was thinking like that he was no better than those guys who'd made fun of Katie as she walked through the gym...he was worse in fact, at least they were being honest about being scumbags. Kate was lovely, she'd been bright and funny once you punctured that veneer of shy, defensiveness.

She was a pretty girl, what did it matter if she was fatter than other girls. "STOP BEING A JERK" he told himself. He shook his head, it wasn't like him to be shallow, he was better than those other guys. Mike had been single for a long time, he was one of the few people he knew who didn't seem to have any luck with women despite being popular and sociable. The problems started last year, Mike's first at university. He had joined the rugby team and the running club and things had been going well. He'd hooked up with a physiotherapist called, Gayle, things has been going fine until he'd sustained a pretty bad groin injury whilst running in February. This had meant no sport and no sex for most of the year. He had struggled to stay part of the rugby team and had lost touch with a lot of his friends. Gayle had helped him a lot and they'd kept their sex life alive via Gayle's voracious appetite for having Mike go down on here. He didn't mind this one bit and they'd stayed together until the end of the first year when she'd left university having failed her course and transferred to a college closer to her home. Since summer he'd been trying to get fit again and re-establish his social life, he had lost a lot of confidence after being off the market for so long. A date would actually be really great he decided.

He was walking back from the gym towards his student accommodation when his phone started ringing, unknown number so it was probably be Katie "Hello?" He answered.

".....err....hi it's Katie, is that Mike" she said falteringly.

Galvanised by his earlier self-loathing he decided to take the initiative "Yeah, hi Katie....still on for that drink?"

He could almost feel the tension lift from her "Yes definitely" she said a little bit too quickly "What time, I am just leaving the gym and I'll need to get home and get ready...is half eight good for you"

He smiled, a date with a lovely girl was always someone to celebrate "Brilliant, did you have anywhere in mind?"

Katie always tried to avoid the towns student bars, she didn't really have many friends at university and found them all a bit loud and crowded and full of people trying to show off to each other. She'd decided on a quieter bar nearer her home and so was glad when Mike had asked her to choose the venue "How about The Vineyard out towards North Park?"

Mike frowned, that was kind of inconvenient to get to...he would have to hurry to make it for half eight. Still, it wasn't a problem. Probably easier to chat and get to know someone there than in the student union bar or somewhere like that "Yeah, sure....see you there"

Katie was smiling now, she couldn't wait to tell Leanne her housemate. She's talk it over with her and she would give her advice, help her get ready and hopefully drop her off at the bar. "Perfect. See you later".

And that was that.

Mike breeze home and dropped off his gym bag. He didn't have long so quickly started cooking some pasta. He was famished from his gym session. Whilst eating he chatted to his housemates who were delighted that he'd finally managed to get himself a date instead of timidly asking them to try and find a potential matches for him amongst their girlfriend's circle of friends. After that he started getting changed and was just finishing when he looked at his watch. He'd spent too long cooking and was now in danger of missing the bus he needed to make it to North Park in time. He grabbed his coat and ran out of the door.

Of course, the bus was late. He stood at the bus-stop squinting into the distance. He was going to be late...he reached into his pocket to text Katie....no phone. He screamed and berated himself with a stream of profanities that would make a sailor blush. He had two options. Head back to the house and get the phone or see if he could make it. He was just agonising over the decision when the bus crawled into site.

Of course, the bus seemed to take an eternity. Every stop, every set of traffic lights, a traffic snarl-up resulting from two vehicles colliding "OH FOR FUCKS SAKE" Mike mouthed silently as he looked at his watched.

Katie was sitting in The Vineyard nursing a white wine and feeling utterly foolish. She'd text Mike asking where he was and was just in the process of calling her housemate to come and pick her up when her date almost fell through the door looking like he'd just finished a marathon. This was not far from the truth, he had abandoned the bus as it sat in the gridlock resulting from the traffic accident and sprinted the remaining mile. He gasped for breath as her stood opposite her and generally looked utterly pathetic "I am so sorry I'm late...it was a nightmare" he gasped.

Katie looked him up and down, he actually looked less sweaty when they'd met at the gym earlier...he'd obviously ran a significant distance to get her but still, he was over twenty minutes late. "Looks like someone didn't do their warm-up routine, it's really important you know" Mike laughed in between breathes. She wasn't letting him off the hook "I have this thing called a phone...it's great, it let's you communicate with people" she said sarcastically.

Mike regained his breath "I have this thing called a brain, it's completely useless....I left my phone at home sorry"

Katie merely raised an eyebrow

"I swear..." he protested, he held his arms outstretched "...you can frisk me".

Katie folded her arms "You wish"

Mike smiled "Can I get you a drink? You can throw it at me if you like"

This gained him a laughed, he looked so forlorn and he really did seem genuine. Katie relented "I'll have a dry white protein shake. Chardonnay flavoured".

Mike grinned. He looked at Katie for the first time having been avoiding eye contact with her out of nervousness. She looked beautiful. At the gym her dark brown hair was tied back tightly, now it flowed down to her shoulders, her eyes sparkled and were contrasts by dark eyeliner and the plump lips that held so much allure earlier were now pink and glossy and begging to be kissed. She wore a tasteful party dress that covered her shoulders but left her arms bare and showed off Katie's secret weapon. Her chest could reduce most men to distracted, gibbering wrecks. It plunged down to show an expanse of creamy white skin and a generous amount of cleavage. Whilst she was getting ready Leanne noted that it would provide an interesting test to see if he spoke to her face or her boobs all night. Most of Katie's infrequent dating had resulted in the latter regardless of what she wore. With Mike, strong and athletic as he was, she felt like showing off.

Once the date actually got started things went great. The two chatted and got along brilliantly. They mocked various types of people at the gym, bemoaned student life, talked about their respective courses, asked about each others home life. Mike wanted nothing better then to stare at those gorgeous breasts all night but made a conscious effort to look her in the eye. They sat for 3 hours and several drinks before the bell went for closing time.

They grabbed their coats and headed for the door, as they exited Mike decided to take the plunge and reached for her hand. Katie's breath caught as he did so. Mike was definitely attractive and he seemed like a lovely guy, now he was holding her hand. She looked up at Mike and she gently moved his head forward until they kissed. She turned so they faced each other and she held her hands up to his face and lost herself in the kiss as he wrapped his arms around her. She closed her eyes and let herself get swept away.
